I originally created this style for my GURPS Highlander campaign. It was taught by the Celtic warrior-woman Scathach (the same Immortal who taught Cuculainn). Scathach's Warcraft makes use of the spear and the sword, and lots of dirty tricks in combat, as well as wilderness survival. It's very suitable for a cinematic "Immortals" campaign, and includes maneuvers like being able to cut off someone's head with a spear blade, and mystical stealth. It is not realistic.
Primary Skills: Brawling, Broadsword, Spear
Secondary Skills: : Acrobatics, Camouflage, Climbing, Jumping, Running, Survival (Woods), Stealth, Tracking
Optional Skills: Knife, Traps, Spear Throwing, Staff, Swimming
Maneuvers: Feint (Broadsword or Spear), Ground Fighting (Broadsword or Spear), Hit Location (Broadsword or Spear), Knee Strike, Double-Strike (Staff), Spear Slash, Stamp Kick, Sweeping Slash
Cinematic Skills: Blind Fighting, Invisibility Art, Light Walk
Cinematic Maneuvers: Enhanced Dodge, Enhanced Parry (Spear or Broadsword, or all weapons), Whirlwind Attack (Staff)
Double Strike (Hard) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Defaults to Staff-2
Cannot exceed Staff skill level
Works like the Spin Kick and Spinning Punch maneuvers, using both ends of a staff to execute a simultaneous Feint and attack. First roll a contest of skill, the attacker's Double-Strike skill vs. the defender's weapon skill, Shield, or Staff skill. Then roll a second time for the attack. If the attacker wins the first roll, he gets a normal Feinting bonus, but if he loses, he suffers a penalty equal to the amount by which he missed the roll.
Sweeping Slash(Hard) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Defaults to Staff-2
Cannot exceed Staff skill level
Works like the Sweeping Kick maneuver, but using a staff to try to sweep the opponent's legs. If the attack is not parried or dodged, roll a contest of skills between the attacker's Sweeping Slash skill and the defender's DX. The stronger of the two gets +1 to the roll. If the victim loses, he falls down unless he can make an Acrobatics-5 roll to somersault in the air and stay on his feet.
Spear Slash . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Defaults to Spear-4 or Staff-2
Cannot exceed Spear or Staff skill level
Normally a spear can only be used for thrusting attacks. However, with this skill the spearman can attempt to use the edge of the spear blade, to do Swing+2 cutting damage. Note that most spear blades are not designed to be used like this, and are likely to dull or break very easily.
I present this just for the heck of it. I have a brown belt in Yoshitsune Waza jujutsu (studied at the Columbia Jujutsu Dojo, in Columbia, Maryland, under Sensei Patrick Raphael). (Hey, I probably have at least a 14 or less in some of the maneuvers....) This style is very much oriented towards street self-defense, with a lot of stick-up drills (disarming someone with a gun or a knife.) The version I was taught included elements from numerous other styles, ranging from formal judo throws to combato techniques. No cinematic version is given. (I kept asking Sensei, but he said he wouldn't teach me the Ninja Death Grip until I could walk on rice paper without leaving a trace....)
