- Crossing the Alps -- Agnes decides to return to Britain, but getting across the Alps is a dangerous journey, filled with bad weather, hostile immortals, and bandits.
- The Last Basque -- Giving up on returning to Britain, Agnes crosses the Pyrenees, and is forced to duel a Basque immortal whose husband was killed by Agnes' husband, Kemal.
- The Reign in Spain -- Agnes settles in Pamplona, a trade crossroads between the Christian and Muslim empires. At last, Techo and Kemal find her here, but after being reunited with her husband, Kemal duels a fanatical Shiite immortal, whose Quickening affects him badly.
- Sailing to Byzantium -- Agnes, Techo, and Kemal go to Greece to find Antonella, but Philip tells them that Antonella left for Britain years ago.
- Return to Britain -- Agnes parts with her husband again, and sails to Wessex, where she finds Antonella in the court of King Æthelbald.
- Return to Britain, pt. II -- Agnes and Antonella flee Wessex, heading for London.
- The Road to London -- Agnes and Antonella are attacked while resting in St. Alban's, and decide to travel with a group to London. Agnes resumes training Antonella, now that she is an immortal.
- Æthelbad's London -- Agnes and Antonella arrive in London, and Agnes meets Æthelbad again, who is now hiding in a cavern beneath the city.
